Weaving Miracles with people with disabilities.

Smiles Through Art was pleased to create and implement an art program for ETTA, a Los Angeles based Jewish organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Art program “Weaving Miracles” was designed in commemoration of Hanukkah, a holiday that celebrates the miracle of the little lamp oil (menorah) that had only enough to light the ancient temple for a single night, and yet lasted eight nights.

It remind us also the importance of rebuilding our world with positive acts of kindness.
As part of our Art program, adolescents and young adults with disabilities painted a circle representing the world and wove with different threads a Menorah. The art project also spin like a top (dreidel), representing the miracles. Miracles are necessary to improve our lives and our world.

Art weaving helps relax the mind, develops better coordination, attention to detail and increases problem solving skills.

Programs in Arts in healthcare are necessary for improving well-being and creating positive minds. Mental Health Matters!

Sharon Persovski was presented with a Recognition from ETTA for her outstanding partnership on the project and in recognition of the dedication, creativity and positive impact brought to this collaborative initiative helping people with disabilities.
