Smiles Through Art participated at the Wellness Exhibition in Pasadena, California at the Pasadena Convention Center, with the art program: “Decoupage Plates” were people with disabilities and children used different kinds of color papers making intricate designs in acrylic plates.
Decoupage (or découpage) is the art of decorating surfaces by applying paper cutouts, such as magazines or paper, by multiple layers of varnish or lacquer to achieve a painted effect.
Derived from the French word decouper ("to cut out"), this technique involves cutting out, gluing, and sealing designs, sometimes with up to 30–40 layers of varnish.
It was originated in France in the 17th century as a way to simulate expensive inlay work on furniture.
